2025/26 season
UEFA coefficient rankings determine how many Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League spots each country receives. When two countries are close in points near a critical rank boundary, the race between them can shift which clubs qualify for Europe. Below are the tightest races this season.
These races straddle a rank boundary where spot allocations change. A swap here directly affects how many clubs qualify for European competition.

A coefficient race occurs when two countries are close in the UEFA coefficient rankings near a rank boundary that determines how many Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League spots their clubs receive. Small point differences at these boundaries can mean gaining or losing a prestigious CL spot.
Countries earn coefficient points through their clubs' results in European competitions. Wins earn 2 points, draws earn 1 point, and there are bonuses for reaching knockout stages. The country coefficient is the average of all participating clubs' points. Rankings are based on a 5-year rolling total.
The most critical boundaries are rank 5/6 (losing a 4th CL spot), rank 6/7 (dropping from 3 to 2 CL teams), and rank 15/16 (losing a 2nd CL team entirely). The rank 10/11 boundary is also significant because the champion loses direct CL league phase entry and must win a playoff.
Rankings change after every European matchday during the season (typically Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays). Results from Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League matches all contribute. Our data updates automatically after each matchday.
Yes, but it depends on the gap. A country can gain roughly 4-8 points per season from strong performances. If two countries are within a few points of each other, a single strong or weak season can cause a swap. The projections on this page show the best and worst case scenarios.
